When it comes to your breakup with sugar, and your food addiction and eating disorder recovery, it can be very easy to focus on the bright flashing lights saying “This is hard!!!!”
And while this journey absolutely comes with difficulties, it’s worth considering that the reason this feels hard is that you are dealing with the emotions around this breakup.
These emotions are 100% valid and understandable- you might be frustrated with having made so many changes. You might be feeling sadness in saying goodbye to the food you once found so soothing and comforting. You might be negotiating with yourself as to what you’re willing to accept in your new relationship with food. Or in denial that this is what it takes to get to your food relationship goals.
Suffice it to say, you’re going through grief. When things feel too difficult, know that it’s normal to feel this way, and it won’t last forever.
You can also focus on what is a more “effective” or helpful way to get to your goals. If “this is hard” was my primary point in any relationship I was in, I’d be miserable. Instead, you might say “I love this person and sometimes it’s challenging.” That keeps us working to strengthen our relationship and notice all the positive benefits the relationship has to offer.
So yes, this can be hard, and it can also be so incredibly freeing and is the key to a peaceful relationship with food. As always, know that Team MC and the Beacon are here to help. We’re here rooting you on in your journey to find your solution.
