One of the biggest misconceptions people have about giving up sugar is that they’re about to embark on another diet.

And I get why you’re wary. Diets have seriously screwed up our relationship with food, weight, and body image. Not to mention, they’ve seriously skewed our expectations about what it means to be in a healthy and loving relationship with food. But here’s why breaking up with sugar is absolutely not another diet.

A diet is a short-term solution- something that is bound for disaster in the long-haul. It prescribes unrealistic and unsustainable food plans and then doesn’t give us options for when life gets tricky.

On the other hand, breaking up with sugar is what makes a healthy and loving long term relationship with food possible. When we’re not consuming the sugar in our bread, cereal, sauces, and desserts, our cravings are leveled out and our hunger and fullness cues can be re-wired. If you are someone who struggles with binge eating, overeating, or food addiction, getting rid of sugar, along with developing healthy coping strategies, can bring a quieter mind, as well as physical and emotional relief.

As we say at Team MC, long-term peace in your relationship with food and your relationship with yourself is the top priority. And of course, your solution may look different depending on your unique needs. One size certainly does not fit all! But breaking up with sugar has been the solution for so many people struggling in their relationship with food- quite the opposite of a harmful diet!

As always, know that Team MC and the Beacon are here to help. We’re here rooting you on in your journey to find your solution.
